New Zealand’s latest COVID-19 community outbreak has now grown to 104 confirmed cases according to the Ministry of Health’s latest update this afternoon..

The number of cases grew by 14 since the Ministry of Health’s 1pm update earlier today..

All the new cases reported today are in Auckland, except for one in Waikato. They include 13 household contacts and one case linked to the sub-cluster at Marist College in Mt Albert..

Earlier today, Auckland’s mayor Phil Goff said the latest outbreak is the most challenging for the city so far, with fears the virus may have spread more widely than initially thought..

Goff said the genome sequencing of the latest cases will show whether there are additional subclusters or if it is all connected to the current known outbreak..

On Monday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Auckland will remain at alert level 4 until at least 11.59pm on Tuesday, August 24, while the rest of New Zealand will stay at alert level 3 until the same time..
