Biden Meets With Ukraine’s Zelenskyy in Surprise Visit to Kyiv

US President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday, meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a show of support for the country as it nears the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

Biden announced an additional $500 million in military aid to Ukraine, bringing the total US commitment to more than $30 billion since the war began.

The visit was shrouded in secrecy, with Biden’s departure from Washington kept under wraps and his arrival in Kyiv unannounced.

Biden and Zelenskyy met at Mariinsky Palace, the official residence of the Ukrainian president, where they held a joint press conference.

Biden praised Ukraine’s resilience and said the US would continue to support the country for as long as it takes.
