Best Buy is now selling a home security system that utilizes police body camera footage to deter crime and help solve cases. The system, called Deter & Detect, is a collaboration between Best Buy and Axon, the company that makes body cameras for law enforcement.
Deter & Detect works by connecting a home security camera to a cloud-based platform. When the camera detects motion, it sends a notification to the homeowner’s smartphone. The homeowner can then view the footage live or review it later.
If the homeowner sees suspicious activity, they can flag it for review by Axon’s team of former law enforcement officers. Axon will then determine if the footage is relevant to an ongoing investigation. If it is, Axon will share the footage with the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Best Buy says that Deter & Detect is a valuable tool for homeowners because it gives them access to police body camera footage that they wouldn’t otherwise have. This footage can help homeowners deter crime and solve cases if they become victims.
